کتاب طراحی لرزه‌ای ساختمانها به روش مفهومی (اصول اولیه برای مهندسین سازه، معماران، مالکان ساختمان و مسئولان) تألیف دکتر هوگو باخمن و توسط دکتر ساسان عشقی ترجمه و تدوین شده است. هدف این کتاب، ارایه دانش کسب شده در زمینه راهکارهای مقابله با زلزله در ساختمانها، در قالب یک مجموعه ساده و قابل درک است. شیوه انتخاب شده در این کتاب، بیان اصول اولیه به همراه عکسها، نمونه‌ها و توضیحات مربوطه می‌باشد. اصول، عکسها (از مؤلف و یا مراجع دیگر) و متن کتاب نتیجه کارهای پژوهشی طولانی مدت و فعالیتهای طراحی گسترده‌ای در عرصه پرچالش و در حال پیشرفت مهندسی زلزله است. کتاب طراحی لرزه ای ساختمانها به روش مفهومی در انتشارات پژوهشگاه بین‌المللی زلزله‌شناسی و مهندسی زلزله به چاپ رسیده است.
Worldwide earthquakes cause regularly large economic losses - Kobe in 1995 with more than 6000 causalities, counted for 100 Billion US$ of economic loss. Earthquakes are unavoidable. Reducing disaster risk is a top priority not only for engineers and disaster managers, but also for development planners and policy-makers around the world. Disaster and risk reduction are an essential part of sustainable development. On December 11 2000, the Swiss Federal Council approved for federal buildings a seven-point program running from 2001 to 2004 for earthquake damage prevention. The earthquake resistance of new structures is a high priority in the Confederation’s seven-point program. The author of this publication, Professor Hugo Bachmann, has devoted many years to the study of seismic risk and behavior of buildings subjected to earthquakes. At the request of the FOWG, which expresses its gratitude to him, he agreed to make available his extensive scientific knowledge on earthquake resistance of buildings. These guidelines are designed to contribute to the transfer of research results into building practice. These results must be taken into account by the design professionals, thus ensuring a reasonable earthquake resistance for new structures at little or no additional cost.
